Cummari® is a community-driven, year-round retreat space where solo travelers can feel safe, inspired, and connected.
“Cummari” is a word steeped in ancient feminine tradition. In the Sicilian language, it describes a bond of female friendship that feels more like family.
Inspired by Sicily’s rich culture of symbolism and the concept of Cummari’s Co-living space, I developed a mural that enriches these two concepts together.
I was inspired by the symbol of Sicily: the Trinacria. This symbol is originated from the triskelion, that appears in many cultures that represent the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
In Hinduism, this cycle is embodied by three gods. I loved the idea of representing this eternal cycle through three interconnected figures, while highlighting the importance of true connection and friendship.
The snake served as a protective element as it also refers to medusa in the trinacria symbol, and it provided a perfect dynamic shape to connect the two murals together visually.
The depicted two pine cones hold a beautiful meaning in Sicily, as they are often given, received and displayed as a sign of welcome and hospitality.
